A few simple steps help your new light look great and work safely for years.
Before you start
- Check the product specifications for voltage (120V), bulb base, and whether bulbs are included.
- Confirm the fixture size works for your space. For pendants over a kitchen island, allow about 30–36 in. between the countertop and the bottom of the shade.
- For chandeliers over a dining table, a fixture about one-half to two-thirds the width of the table usually looks balanced.
Hardwired fixtures
- Always turn off power at the circuit breaker, not just the wall switch.
- Mount to an approved electrical junction box rated for the fixture's weight.
- Connect black (hot) to black, white (neutral) to white, and the ground wire to the green screw or bare copper wire.
- We strongly recommend installation by a licensed electrician, and it may be required by your local building code.
Plug-in and rechargeable lamps
- Plug-in lights connect to a standard wall outlet. Keep cords away from heat and walkways.
- Charge rechargeable lamps fully before first use with the included USB cable and a standard USB wall adapter.
Bulbs
- E26: Standard medium screw base, used in most household lamps and ceiling fixtures.
- G9: Small bi-pin base common in sconces and compact fixtures.
- Never exceed the maximum wattage listed for the fixture. LED bulbs run cooler and use less energy.
- For dimming, use bulbs labeled "dimmable" together with a compatible wall dimmer.
Outdoor lights
- Check the IP rating: IP54 resists splashes; IP65 resists water jets and dust.
- Seal around the mounting plate with exterior-grade silicone to keep moisture out of the junction box.
